Susan Lawrence, PhD

Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education, School of Arts and Sciences

Susan is Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education in the School of Arts and Sciences. In her role as an Rutgers Center for Organizational Leadership fellow, Dr. Lawrence serves as a member of the core faculty in the PreDoctoral Leadership Development Academy. As Vice Dean, Susan oversees undergraduate education, academic services, programs for special populations such as Honors, transfer, and first generation, and faculty development in teaching and learning for over 21,000 undergraduates. Dr. Lawrence is a member of the Rutgers Executive Council on Assessment and has over ten years’ experience in Middle States Commission for Higher Education accreditation preparations. A tenured member of the Department of Political Science and the graduate faculty in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in higher education program, she writes on leadership. Her current research addresses the future of liberal arts undergraduate education at the research-university and mission-centered instructional and institutional effectiveness assessment as a response to the political demands facing higher education today.
