Susan is Interim Co-Executive Dean for the School of Arts and Sciences. In her role as an Rutgers Center for Organizational Leadership fellow, Dr. Lawrence serves as a member of the core faculty in the PreDoctoral Leadership Development Academy. A professor of Political Science, she is the author of the award-winning book, The Poor in Court: The Legal Services Program and Supreme Court Decision-Making and for her teaching, she received the 2001 FAS Award for Distinguished Contribution to Undergraduate Education. From 2006-2016, she was Dean for Educational Initiatives and the Core Curriculum. In 2016, she became Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education where she oversaw recruitment, instruction, advising, and academic support for the more than 21,000 undergraduates in the School of Arts and Sciences. She worked closely with undergraduate directors in over 40 departments and interdisciplinary programs on instructional, curricular, and advising issues for all students, including majors and minors, and with the assistant deans in the Office of Academic Services to provide general advising as well as special programs for first year students, transfer students, and special populations. Most recently she has written on supporting teaching through Covid.
