Mehruba Anwar Parris

Mehruba Anwar Parris, MD, FAAEM, FACMT is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), where she also directs the inpatient Medical Toxicology Consult Service at University Hospital. In addition, she is a Medical Toxicology Consultant with the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System. In her leadership roles, Dr. Parris oversees clinical operations, supervises fellows and residents, teaches at the medical school and contributes to the development of institutional policies related to toxicology and substance use. She also provides Addiction Medicine services and has been instrumental in strengthening collaborations between Medical Toxicology and other hospital services to enhance patient care and education. Dr. Parris is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology. She completed her Medical Toxicology Fellowship at Emory University/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, residency in Emergency Medicine at NY Methodist/Presbyterian Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, and her medical education at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. Her academic interests include critical care toxicology, global and public health, physician wellbeing, diversity in medical education, and patient safety.
