Dr. Peg Avallone is an Associate Dean and a Clinical Associate Professor, Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden. As educator and leader, Dr Avallone has implemented creative solutions to promote nursing student success. Dr Avallone implemented a Nursing Student Success Coach office to provide resources for students at risk of course failure. Another initiative involved the redesign of the course assistant role by integrating BSN-prepared nurses into high-risk courses These RN-course assistants helped to reduce attrition from the undergraduate program by 13.7 % in the first semester of implementation. The additional investment of $33,000 in salary preserved $344,000 in tuition revenue.
