Dr. Eswaraka is the Associate Vice President for Rutgers Animal Care program with over 18 years of experience working in the laboratory animal field in leadership positions. Prior to Rutgers, he was directing animal care programs for over 15 years working at both small biotech (GTx Inc.) and larger pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer and Amgen. Dr. Eswaraka is a board-certified laboratory animal veterinarian and has a PhD in Molecular Virology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Immediately after his PhD, Dr. Eswaraka joined as the Director of Veterinary services at GTx Inc. And subsequently he moved to Pfizer, San Diego to become the Associate Director of Global Science and Technology, and then served as the Director and Attending Veterinarian for the Comparative Medicine Resources, Amgen Inc form 2014-2017. Dr. Eswaraka joined Rutgers in October of 2017 where he has overseen over $22 million worth of facility renovations to facilitate the big expansion in biomedical research. He loves teaching and currently serves as the Residency program director and instructor for a 3-credit undergraduate course on In Vivo techniques.
