Itzamarie Chévere-Torres is the Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Advancement at Rutgers University. She is an expert in strategic planning and implementation, professional training, and career development. Itzamarie oversees daily office operations, collaborates with key stakeholders, and develops resources and programs for over 500 postdocs across the university.
By nurturing relationships with faculty, stakeholders, administrators, and senior leadership, Itzamarie aims to establish sustainable resources and enhance the higher education experience through collaborative efforts. Additionally, she provides guidance on academic policies and procedures to support postdoctoral careers effectively.
With over seven years of mid-career leadership experience, Itzamarie has organized over 50 professional events and initiated more than 15 programs, significantly enriching the postdoc experience and fostering universitywide partnerships. She excels at recognizing and leveraging people’s unique strengths, promoting collaboration among people with diverse expertise. Itzamarie is a strong advocate for a holistic approach to career advancement. She is a certified career coach who emphasizes career alignment and fulfillment, goal setting, and productivity. She holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico and completed her Neuroscience postdoctoral training at NYU and Rutgers.
