
Denalee M. O’Malley, Ph.D., M.S.W. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, an associate member of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and Chief of the Research Division within her department. As an implementation scientist, her work centers on optimizing care delivery to improve health outcomes and reduce disparities. Under her leadership, the Research Division fosters a collaborative, transdisciplinary environment aimed at enhancing the quality of care and promoting the health of families and communities. In 2024, the Department of Family Medicine was ranked 8th nationally by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR). Dr. O’Malley’s research focuses on integrating evidence-based strategies into real-world clinical settings, particularly at the intersection of primary care and oncology. Her program applies implementation science to improve colorectal cancer screening and survivorship care for individuals managing multiple chronic conditions. She currently leads two investigator-initiated studies funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and serves as co-investigator on five additional research projects. She holds leadership roles in the North American Primary Care Research Group and the Interdisciplinary Network for Survivorship and Primary Care Research and Education (INSPiRE), and has served as an ad-hoc reviewer for several federal study sections, including NIH’s Science of Implementation in Health and Healthcare and the Department of Defense’s Prostate Cancer Implementation Science panel. Dr. O’Malley earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Vermont, her M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University, and her Ph.D. in Social Work from Rutgers University. She was a Scholar at the Institute for Implementation Science at Washington University in St. Louis from 2021 to 2023.
