Damali ( Dom-a- lee) Campbell-Oparaji, MD is a board-certified physician in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Addiction Medicine. Her career has been dedicated to advancing women’s health in underserved communities, primarily in urban northern New Jersey. Through mentorship and the promotion of best practices, her impact has extended well beyond her clinical work. Dr. Campbell-Oparaji has led initiatives to improve maternal health outcomes, including the implementation of Centering Pregnancy at an academic medical center and co-leading a CAP grant-funded program offering free cervical and breast cancer screenings for uninsured women. Her interests include enhancing health education and literacy, and addressing social determinants of health to promote equity in care. Since 2014, she has specialized in managing pregnancies complicated by substance use disorders, providing integrated care for both maternal health and addiction treatment. She has served on the New Jersey Maternal Mortality Review Committee since 2008, initially as a volunteer and later as an appointed member following its legislative establishment in 2019. From May 2020 to September 2024, Dr. Campbell-Oparaji was the Medical Director of the NJ Maternal Care Quality Collaborative, a HRSA-funded initiative. In this role, she also served as Maternal and Child Health Advisor to the New Jersey Department of Health. Currently Dr. Campbell serves on the board of the New Jersey Maternal Infant Health Innovation Authority (NJ MIHIA) a think tank for innovation to improve maternal health outcomes in NJ. February 2025 she was appointed the director of Ambulatory care services for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive health services for Rutgers Health, New Jersey Medical School.
