Dr. Gitzelmann has been a pediatric surgeon for 20 years. Due to the nature of his specialty, he has always been associated with large academic institutions. As an academic surgeon, he takes pride in teaching both medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Gitzelmann was recruited to the RWJ Medical School to establish and build an academic pediatric surgical service at Cooperman Barnabas medical Center in Livingston NJ as part of the RWJ pediatric surgery group. For the past 3 years he has successfully transformed the service from a private practice service into an academic division of Pediatric Surgery.
